Pittsburgh, PA – One of the big takeaways from the Steelers 23-18 win against the Raiders in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium was Steelers Nation showing up and showing out at the league’s premier road trip destination.

When the game concluded on Sunday night, T.J. Watt spoke to Sunday Night Football’s Melissa Stark after the win the 2021 Defensive Player of the Year had this to say, “Steeler Nation has been incredible whether we’re at Acrisure or we’re here or on the road or hopefully next week too. I just want them to know the importance of them to the game.”

Another wrinkle of Steelers Nation infiltrating NFL venues throughout the league is hearing “MUUUUTH!” when tight end Pat Freiermuth makes a catch. The third-year pro is now accustomed to after the catch ritual and could not imagine hearing the fans chant “MUUUUTH!” when the ball is thrown, his way.

“Man, it’s awesome,” Freiermuth said about hearing the crowd in Las Vegas. “Hearing the video. They saw that Kenny (Pickett) was about to throw it to me and it started. Then I caught the touchdown. It’s crazy. It gives me chills every time I think about it. Steelers Nation is great, and it’s been awesome.”

The chant began with two-time Super Bowl champion Heath Miller who spent his entire 11-year NFL career with the Steelers (2005-15). Steelers Nation was chanting “HEEEAAATH!” during his time playing at Heinz Field.

Now, Freiermuth along with Steelers Nation are keeping the tradition alive at Acrisure Stadium. Freiermuth says he has spoken to Miller about the chants, but most of their dialogue between one another revolves around family and life overall.

“It started here because of Heath (Miller) and they (Steelers Nation) did a great job of welcoming me in with that,” Freiermuth said. “I do get it now when I go back to Penn State. I get it there now and it’s been awesome.”

The combination of Freiermuth making the catch and hearing “MUUUUTH!” afterwards is something he mentioned that would be a bit bizarre not hearing during the game.

“It would be weird,” Freiermuth said if it was quiet. “It’s almost like I’m expecting it.”
