Pittsburgh, PA – Halloween is candy, costumes, and scary movies. It’s also something celebrated in nearly every neighborhood across America. Football players were once young, and they roamed their own neighborhoods trick or treating.

It’s also fun to throw something a little different to break up the tedious repetitive question that comes with the business of covering a team day in and day out. Approaching each player, you know they are agonizing the monotony of the process is upon them again until – You ask.

What was your favorite Halloween you wore growing up?

Awe, the amazement of changing up the question menu and letting them share a little piece of themselves outside the realm of football. They come to life and become engaged in the conversation and in one instance while talking to Myles Boykin his teammates Rodney Williams and Anthony McFarland were jumping in on the topic.

Q – Halloween growing up. Were you into scary movies?

CK – Yeah, I was, but I was more of a Halloween guy and not so much a scary movie guy. I’ve seen a couple but I’m more of a costume guy.

Q – Growing up, what was one of your favorite costumes?

CK – I remember my brothers and I went as the Mutant Ninja Turtles. We had good costumes. We took a picture and I have to get that picture from my mom. That was probably my all-time favorite. I was the youngest brother, and I was Donatello. It was a cool Halloween, it was awesome.

Q – Halloween growing up. Were you a scary movie guy?

CH – Nah, that stuff would give me nightmares. My sister used to mess with me too much.

Q – How so?

CH – She would wear this all-black sweat suit. Then she would come knock on the window with a knife or something like that. It would scare the crap out of me.

Q– How about costumes?

CH – There is an old picture where I was Batman. One year I was Spiderman. My neighborhood was awesome to go Trick or Treating but I don’t remember many of the costumes.

Q – Halloween growing up. Were you a scary movie guy?

NH – I can’t think of the name right now. The one where I like turn into monsters on Halloween. You know which one I’m talking about. The people are in their costumes, and they turn into actual monsters.

Q – Any favorite costumes that stand out as a kid?

NH – Not me but my older brother got a sumo suit and he wore my favorite pajama pants. Then he spilled like mustard on the chest of the sumo suit and walked around as me on Halloween. That was a good one, I had to tip my hat to him on that one. I wore fake teeth. Like the ugly mouthpiece, the ugly teeth. I cut out a cardboard box and wrote free kisses on top of it and went walking around.

Q – You get any kisses.

NH – Nah, (laughing).

Q – Halloween growing up. Were you into scary movies?

MR – I remember watching the movie Halloween with Michael Myers. I’m not a huge scary movie guy but I’ll dabble every once in a while.

Q – How about costumes?

MR – It’s been a while. I was a farmer in college and had overalls on. The army fatigues like a GI Joe. I remember I was Achilles from the Trojan war like a Greek soldier. I did that one the best I could do because I’m a bit of a history buff.

Q – Halloween growing up. Were you into scary movies?

MG – Not really but the most recent scary movie I watched with my kids was Casper. A couple weeks ago. They’re going to wear their costumes. She is Little Red Riding Hood I think and of course my son is going as a football player.

Q – How about costumes from when you were a kid?

MG – My favorite costumes from when I was a kid is one year I went as the Red Power Ranger. I would be a Red Power Ranger every year if I could be and if not, I was a football player.

Halloween Q&A with

Miles Boykin, Receiver

Q – Halloween growing up. Were you into scary movies?

MB – I hate scary movies. They would give me nightmares (which caused Rodney Williams and Anthony McFarland to chyme in). It’s hard to be taken seriously in this locker room (Boykin laughed).

Q – How about a Halloween costume that was your favorite?

MB – Probably the Scream mask with the blood that pumped through it and the Nightmare Before Christmas is my favorite Halloween movie.

Rodney Williams, Tight end

Q – Halloween growing up. Were you into scary movies?

RW – I’m not a big scary movie guy. I don’t understand why you would want to be scared. I don’t get that part. Have you ever heard of the movie Cujo? That movie messed me up and was scary.

Q – What did you dress up as?

RW – I dressed up as a soldier one time. I was a football player once of course. I was actually the Hulk one year.
