Pittsburgh, PA – Steelers rookie linebacker Nick Herbig recorded his second sack of the season against the Bengals in Pittsburgh 16-10 win to push their overall record to 7-4 after 11 games.

Herbig, a fourth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft is one shy of the third overall pick’s production in Houston Texans Will Anderson who has three sacks in 504 defensive snaps this season. Herbig has just 91 defensive snaps playing behind the likes of T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith.

“It’s something I’m really passionate about is pass rushing,” Herbig said. “That’s been like that since I was in high school.”

Early on when he was finding his footing in the game of football, Herbig explained that his brother Nate (Herbig) was a big influence on finding the position that has helped lead to the National Football League.

It wasn’t a moth to a flame type of success story for Herbig when attending Saint Louis High School in Oahu, Hawaii. It was big brother Nate, three years his senior that took Nick under his wing and helped him along.

“You really got to credit my brother Nate (Herbig) because he really developed my love for the pass rush game,’ (Nick) Herbig said. “I was a freshman, and they didn’t know where to play me at inside backer or safety when I was in high school. I actually played inside backer my freshman year.”

That’s when Nate put his two cents into the equation of helping advance his brother’s ability on the field. Playing offensive linemen in high school, Nate was accustomed to facing pass rushers which led him to telling Nick to try it out.

“My brother was like I think you’re a pass rusher,” Nick said.

“He just started doing moves with me because he played o-line, and he would be like do this or do that blah blah blah. So, it really stems from that relationship with my brother and over the years it just grew.”

It grew into a scholarship at Wisconsin where Nick would achieve First-Team All-Big Ten honors in 2022 that led him to being the 132-pick in the 2024 draft and while Nick continues to build on his impressive resume, his older brother Nate doesn’t want any credit for his little brother’s success.

“I’m not going to take any credit for the crazy shit he does out there,” Nate said. “That’s all him He’s a good player. He’s going to be a good player. I’m just happy to be his brother.”
