Ohio State Overview: Accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl despite junior eligibility because he had graduated – in 3.5 years with a degree in sport industry – by December 2015. Powell was a three-year starter for the Buckeyes with 33 starts and 42 games played. He led the team with three interceptions in 2015 and had eight career interceptions, including critical picks vs. Alabama in the Allstate Sugar Bowl and vs. Notre Dame in the Battlefrog Fiesta Bowl. Also picked off a two-point conversion attempt in the closing seconds of a win over Michigan in 2013. Finished his career with 195 tackles – the second-most among his Buckeye peers – and 16 passes defensed.

2015 Season (Junior): Honorable Mention All-Big Ten … started all 13 games at safety … led the team with three interceptions … part of a defensive secondary that ranked sixth in the FBS in pass efficiency defense and part of a defense that ranked second overall in fewest points allowed (15.1) … third on the team with 71 tackles, 41 of those solo … recorded a season-high eight tackles and a third-quarter INT in the win at Virginia Tech … also had 8 vs. Michigan State … 7 tackles in the win at Michigan … made his second INT of the year vs. Maryland, returning it 25 yards and had his third in the Fiesta Bowl win over Notre Dame … blocked a FG in the win over Western Michigan … six tackles vs. Hawai’i and Indiana and four vs. NIU … 5 tackles and 1 PBU in the win vs. Minnesota … earned his bachelor’s degree in sport industry in May, 2015.

2014 Season (Sophomore): Started all 15 games at one safety position … named defensive MVP of the national championship game against No. 2 Oregon with a game-high nine tackles and a pass break-up … intercepted a pass in the end zone to clinch Ohio State’s 42-35 victory over No. 1-ranked Alabama in the CFP semifinal game at the Sugar Bowl … ranked fourth on the team in total tackles with 76 and was third with four interceptions … ranked 10th in the Big Ten in interceptions … led all Buckeyes with career-high 13 tackles vs. Navy … had a huge interception late in the fourth quarter to keep Indiana from potentially tying the score … also had interceptions against Kent and Penn State.

2013 Season (Freshman): Played in all 14 games with five starts, including the Orange Bowl … recorded eight tackles on the season plus an interception, two pass break-ups and a fumble recovery … his biggest play of the year came in the closing seconds of the game against Michigan, stepping in front of a Devin Gardner two-point conversion attempt to make an interception and preserve the 42-41 win.

Honorable Mention All-Big Ten and played in the Reese’s Senior Bowl even though he leaves the Buckeyes with eligibility left at Ohio State after redshirting (2012) and earning his degree in marketing in May (2015). Tyvis Powell NFL DraftHe finished third on the Buckeyes defense with 71 tackles and first in interceptions (3). He is an energetic player who brings a positive charisma to the defense. Over the last two seasons he played in all 29 games, recording 124 tackles and five interceptions.

Big strong safety, able to transition into pass coverage, tempo setter, aggressive in run support. Versatile safety who attacks the run and excels in coverage and play deep. Long arms and length. Asked to play a lot of man to man at Ohio State and more times than not was on slot receiver. Powell is one of the top overall safeties in the 2016 NFL Draft class.
