Carnell should find himself getting attention from some of the smaller All-Star games at the conclusion of the season at North Alabama. With no offers out of high school he went the NAIA route before playing at Southwestern (JUCO) and gaining some traction.

He received plenty of attention and was close to heading to Utah State before it was derailed due to NCAA rules. Carnell said the Utah State coaching staff stuck with him and helped him search for a new school.

Arriving at North Alabama, Carnell has finally settled into a role of shutdown cornerback. He excels at bump-n-run coverage and loves the physicality of the game. He led the Gulf South Conference with 12 Pass Break-Ups last season and finished with 36 total tackles (31 solo).
