A JUCO player who quickly proved that he belonged at the D1 level. Burrell initial college experience began at Moonpark Junior College where he received All-Conference accolades in both his freshman and sophomore seasons. Departing New Mexico, he received an invitation to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl a validation on making a successful switch from receiver to defensive back.

The long-limbed defensive was one of 33 players invited to a Regional Combine hosted by the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite extensive action at the position Burrell has proven to be a quick study. It is easy to recognize that since the Lobos finished their disappointing 3-9 season, that Burrell has been gaining momentum towards the 2019 NFL Draft.

With good size and speed, Burrell is a tough and aggressive defensive back. He is still learning the nuances of the position but is a devoted student of game film going as far as knowing personal information (nicknames or favorite musician) to throw his opponents off their rhythm during the game. Shows good body control to adjust when playing on the ball. Good hand-eye coordination. Matched up well against the receivers at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. A developmental prospect with plenty of upside who could get a chance in camp.
