Latrobe, PA – Mike Hilton was the pint-size enforcer for the Steelers while he played for Pittsburgh. He signed with Cincinnati last year to play for the division rival Bengals, leaving the Steelers eyeing to replace the feisty slot corner.

If you’re looking for a potential new pint-size punisher, then Arthur Maulet might be one of the new fixtures on defense playing the slot on defense.

“That’s my stuff right there,” Maulet smiled with pads coming next Tuesday in practice. “I’m a physical guy. I like the pads. I can’t wait to put them on and hit a couple people.”

The slot is a new role for Maulet who played outside and safety in the past, but this move inside had him working diligently to be prepared for when this moment came at training camp to prove he was capable to meet the task.

“I had a big learning curve over the summer, Maulet said. “I worked my butt off. I’m ready to prove to all of Pittsburgh Steelers nation that I’m ready to play. Honestly just put your head down and keep working. You’re going to have some tough days obviously but take advantage of your reps.”

Maulet feels comfortable.

Comfortable in his new role and their direction of the team from Coach Mike Tomlin.

“A great mentor,” Maulet says about Tomlin. “A tough mentor like he is supposed to be. A great leader.”

Maulet is excited to have three of alma mater teammates from the Memphis currently on the roster. Calvin Austin. Genard Avery and Anthony Miller makeup the quad for Tigers.

“It’s been fun baby,” Maulet smiles brightly. “It’s been fun man, awe, I love my Memphis brothers.

“We are going to compete. We hold ourselves to a higher standard. It’s like extra motivation for me and us. For us playing together in college and being here on the same team. It’s just a wonderful feeling.”

With so many new faces currently on the roster in Pittsburgh, Maulet despite his short amount of time with the Steelers have a bit of an advantage in knowing the ins and out of the organization.
