The Show To Know Before They Go Pro

C2P- What type of scheme did you run in college? What did coaches ask of you?

We ran the spread, but also got into a lot of two tight end sets and ran the ball a lot. At Toledo the tight end could line up as the number one receiver, in the slot, attached on the line, or in the backfield as an H back. Coaches asked me to do a lot of different things but I fell into the role of an H back lead blocker towards the end of my career

C2P – What are the hallmark qualities of your ability on the field that NFL scouts will immediately identify?

I believe that I am smart and understand the game really well. Also, when you watch my film I think what scouts will see my willingness and ability to finish blocks and to keep blocking through the whistle

C2P – What positive abilities go hidden? Maybe the scheme didn’t allow you to showcase curtain aspects of your game or leadership qualities or game film study? What do scouts need to know about you they have yet to find out?

I played receiver in high school and I know I have the ability to get in and out of routes and I excel at catching the ball. I didn’t have an abundance of opportunities to show that at Toledo but I know I can do it. I also try to grow and better myself in every aspect of my life, whether that be physically, mentally, or spiritually. I seek out mentors and people who have been in my shoes to teach me and to be honest and point out areas in my life I need to improve on. I was also a captain and I love to invest in people and form relationships with teammates and lead through servant leadership.

C2P – What is something positive said to you by coaches that motivates you to keep getting better?

My coaches have told me that I’m a coachable consistent player who they can count on to get the job done when it counts. I take a lot of pride in being dependable and being the same guy day in and day out, and coaches reaffirming that motivates me to keep being that kind of person

C2P – Was there anything ever said negative that helps you grind towards your goal that you use as motivation? Who said it?

My first two years at Toledo I wasn’t very consistent as a person and as a player. I knew it and my tight ends coach called me out on it at the end of my sophomore year. I realized it was because I was inconsistent in my faith and my relationship with Jesus, which is the core of who I am. Once I changed that and became consistent in my faith it started to translate to football and every other aspect of my life. After that consistency became one of my biggest strengths.

C2P – Anything interesting as a person we should know about you – Any interesting aspects of your life that are worthy of mentioning?Hobbies etc…

I’ve been been on 6 mission trips to 3 different countries and that’s something I’m very passionate about. I really like to fish and that’s how I spend a lot of my time in the summer

C2P – Height/Weight leaving high school and current Height/Weight now?

6’4″ 225 6’5″ 255

C2P – Were you a team captain? Yes C2P – How many concussions have you had? 2 C2P – How many career starts? 37 C2P – Two good reasons to pay taxes? If the IRS audits you and you don’t then youl probably go to jail. You get a nice return if you pay them. C2P – Have you ever been arrested? No C2P – One word to describe your ability on the field? Tenacious C2P – Would you rather be a cat or a dog? Dog

Originally was offered a scholarship to Central Michigan, but his desire to have the ball in his hands led him to Toledo. Was also one of the top 100 basketball players in the state of Michigan in high-school. Zmolik played receiver in high-school after losing some weight early on and growing taller.

His first three years at Toledo he played in the slot and his final season he moved into a fullback type role due to injury of teammate. He is well put together and finishes his blocks and puts people on the ground. Will stick to his man as a blocker and run his feet to sustain. Plays with a good base and balance. Marginal production and rarely used in passing game. Toledo was a traditionally run first team. Lacks great speed to stretch the seam. Unpolished route runner.

Zmolik is an overall above average athlete who with an opportunity can showcase those talents. Can be a ‘move’ tight end or H-back type guy at the next level. Solid in-line blocker with decent receiving skills (need to be displayed) to factor into the short-passing game. College production isn’ guy to wow anyone, but the overall film breakdown of Zmolik will provide insight to his value as an all-around athlete with upside. Likely not drafted, but I’m going to feel confident that he makes impact in camp.
